South County, San Diego - The South Bay Union School District (SBUSD) announced the appointment of its seven-member Independent Citizen's Bond Oversight Committee. The committee will oversee the expenditure of the recently approved Proposition X, a $59.4 million school safety and repair bond.
Newly appointed members include:
"We are confident this group will work hard to ensure the proper use of bond expenditures and construction quality," said Dr. Carol Parish, South Bay Union School District Superintendent. "The District is committed to excellence in its work, holding the highest standards for the oversight of Prop X."
This Independent Citizen's Bond Oversight Committee will work to ensure that school bond funds are invested as the voters intended and that the construction projects are completed wisely and competently. Furthermore, the committee will communicate its findings to the Board of Trustees and the public at large. The committee’s first meeting is expected to take place in June. Committee meeting schedules, agendas and minutes will soon be available on the website www.buildingpropx.com.
Prop X will completely modernize seven of the SBUSD’s twelve elementary schools, as well as improve windows, replace sewers and remodel bathrooms at the remaining five school sites within the District. Four other District projects are included in the modernization proposal: VIP Village Preschool, the District’s Education Center, Facilities/Transportation Facility and the District’s Purchasing/Child Nutrition Facility.
